The Clay & Lay Method
The Clay & Lay Method is method used to detox your hair to improve hair health. It is fairly easy to do, but it is slightly messy and requires at least an hour of your time.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Plastic or wooden bowl & spoon (DO NOT USE METAL)
- Hard brush
- Thin durag
- Plastic Shower cap
- Bentonite Clay
- Apple Cider vinegar with the mother
- Oil*
- Powder*
One of the most important things to remember is that everyone's hair is different. The products my hair likes may be different than what yours likes, or your hair may not like it as much as mine does. You need to pay attention to how your hair responds to what you put in it so that you can maximize your hair health. This is the reason I put asterisks next to oil and powder, these are the 2 ingredients that you can customize.
My hair responds well to Black Castor oil and Argan oil, so I use either my Regal 40 or Currency Oil. I also use Activated Charcoal Powder.
Instructions:
- Do a quick wash n style
- Pour some Bentonite Clay into the bowl/container
- Add vinegar, oils, and powderMix the ingredients with spoon or spatula until you have a pudding consistency
- Unrag, apply the mix to your wet hair using the spoon or spatula
- Wet your brush, and brush the mix into your hair using your normal brush angles. (5 minutes max).
You want to cover your hair completely with the clay mix. THIS IS NOT A BRUSH SESSION. You want to keep the mix moist, so if it starts to dry spray water on your hair.
- Wet your durag, wring out the excess water, and rag up.
- Put on a plastic shower cap
- Put on a skully, or toboggan
- Let the clay sit for 15-20 minutes
- Take off the skully and shower cap. Keep your durag on.
- Rinse your hair out (with your durag on). Make sure you rinse well. Some ppl do this step in the shower because the shower pressure helps get all the clay out.
- Pat your durag with a towel to get the excess water off your head. Keep your rag on until your hair is completely dry.
