Most Common Rookie Mistakes
Here are a list of the most common mistakes people make when they start waving. As you embark on your wave journey, be mindful of these things so that you can get your hair the way you want it as quickly as possible without any detours.
1. Brushing your hair before picking a wave pattern.
- This is similar to running a marathon before you know the route. You will never reach your destination if you do not know where you are going.
- There are 4 wave patterns: 360 Beehive, 360 Swirl, 540s, & 720s
- Do a quick search on these patterns, pick one you like, and then have someone knowledgeable with that pattern draw you a diagram.
2. Working on your crown last.
- Although the crown is viewed as 'The Cherry on Top' when it comes to the wave pattern, it is the FIRST thing you need to solidify before you set the rest of your pattern
- Working on your crown last will cause disruptions in your pattern, as you will create forks that you will have to push from the crown to the shoreline.
3. Keeping up with the Jones'
- If you have Kinky 4C hair, your waves will not be wide... and there is nothing wrong with that.
- The products that work for other people, your hair may not like... and there is nothing wrong with that.
- Find the products that your hair likes, and stick to them. This is YOUR journey.
4. Brushing makes waves, NOT PRODUCTS.
- Brushing creates waves, products are for hair health
- Do not overuse products, it will have your hair looking like trash.
- Real wavers don't use texturizers or kits, natural hair is the best hair
5. Brushing fast does not bring your waves in faster.
